What is EMF Protection? A Practical Guide for Your Home

By Bindi, Bio Protective Systems | Last reviewed: May 2026

If you've started looking into EMF protection, you've probably hit a wall of confusing information, scare tactics, and people trying to sell you something. We sell EMF wellness products, so we're not going to pretend otherwise. But we'd rather give you the full picture and let you decide.

Start here: free measures that actually work

Before buying anything, try these. They're measurable, free, and recommended by most EMF researchers:

  • Distance is your best friend. EMF strength drops fast with distance. Moving your Wi-Fi router from the bedroom to the hallway does more than most products on the market.
  • Use wired connections where you can. Ethernet for your desk computer, wired headphones for calls. Every device you take off Wi-Fi reduces your home's overall output.
  • Keep phones away from the bed. Use aeroplane mode overnight, or just buy a £5 alarm clock.
  • Turn off what you're not using. Wi-Fi routers have an off switch. Most people never touch it.

If you do nothing else on this page, do those four things. They're more effective than anything you can buy.

Measure before you spend

An EMF meter shows you exactly what's going on in your home. You might be surprised. The bedroom might be fine while the home office is terrible, or the other way around. The TriField TF2 is a solid consumer model (around £150 in the UK) and covers electric fields, magnetic fields, and radio frequencies.

Knowing what you're dealing with means any product you buy later is targeted at a real problem, not a guess.

The four types of EMF protection

There are four approaches, and they work together:

  1. Free behavioural changes. Distance, wired connections, turning things off. Do this first. Always.
  2. Measurement. An EMF meter tells you what's actually happening so you stop guessing.
  3. Shielding. Products like shielding paint, fabrics, and phone cases that physically block EMF. You can measure the difference on a meter. The trade-off is practical: shield your walls and your Wi-Fi stops working inside them. Best used for one problem area, like a wall facing a phone mast.
  4. Harmonisers. Frequency-based products like ours. An EMF meter reading won't change. What customers tell us, consistently, is that they feel calmer, sleep better, and feel more settled at home. The effects are subjective, and we say that upfront.

If you want a number on a meter to go down, shielding is the right category. If you've done the free stuff, understand your home, and want to go further based on how you feel, that's where our products come in.

Room by room: where to focus

The bedroom

This is where it matters most. You're spending 7 or 8 hours in one spot, every night, closer to your devices than at any other time of day.

  • Move your phone out of the room, or at least switch to aeroplane mode
  • Move the Wi-Fi router to another room. Even one wall between you and the router helps
  • Unplug chargers and devices you're not using overnight
  • If your bed backs onto the fuse box or smart meter, try moving it to the opposite wall

If you've done all that and still aren't sleeping well, our Transformer 28 5G covers your whole home (up to 33m radius). Better sleep is the thing we hear about most from customers. There's a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it and see.

The home office

Probably your highest-exposure room if you work from home. You're sitting near a router, laptop, monitor, and phone for 8+ hours.

  • Use an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi. This is the single biggest change you can make
  • Keep your phone on the far side of the desk
  • Move the router out of the room if you can, or to the far side at least
  • Wired mouse and keyboard instead of Bluetooth

The Transformer 22-30 5G is designed for the room where your router lives. For your phone, the GREEN 8 evolution 5G is a sticker that stays on the device.

The living room

Smart TVs, games consoles, smart speakers, streaming boxes. Usually the most connected room in the house, but you're sitting further from these devices than from your phone, so it's less of a concern.

  • Use Ethernet for your smart TV and console. Most have ports that never get used
  • Put smart speakers away from the sofa, not right next to where you sit
  • Turn smart devices off at the plug when you're not using them

Children's bedrooms

Kids sleep longer than adults, and their bodies are still developing. That's more hours of overnight exposure if devices are close by.

  • No screens in the bedroom after bedtime
  • Aeroplane mode on tablets used for reading or white noise
  • Baby monitors at least 1 metre from the cot

What about 5G?

5G uses higher frequencies than previous mobile generations, but lower power and shorter range. The long-term science isn't settled. Major studies are still running. The practical advice doesn't change though: distance helps, wired is better than wireless, and cutting unnecessary exposure makes sense whatever the generation. Our products have been updated for 5G frequencies.

Where to start

  1. Do the free measures first. They do more than any product
  2. Get an EMF meter like the TriField TF2 and find out what your home actually looks like
  3. If you've done both and want to go further, a Transformer 28 5G for the home and a GREEN 8 evolution 5G for your phone is where most people start
  4. 30-day money-back guarantee on everything. If you don't notice a difference, send it back

Our Family Set 5G bundles the most popular products together at a better price.
